A female individual previously residing at a female recovery facility in California reportedly stole a minivan and led a prolonged police chase culminating with her crossing the border into Mexico on Monday.

Vehicle Theft Discovered from Sober Living Home

As stated in a police statement, a another female, the owner of the vehicle, forty-five years old, reported that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was missing, along with her vehicle key. The owner, who manages two women’s sober living homes, identified the suspect as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately 60 minutes north-west of Los Angeles.

“My keys were taken out of my manager’s handbag. I arrived just as it was happening,” she said, adding that the minivan is used for the sobriety home’s tasks.

Dramatic Chase Develops Across Multiple Counties

Authorities tracked the van about 19 kilometers north in a nearby city, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but Wilson did not comply and accelerated rapidly. She reached speeds of about 90mph on the 118 freeway until the chase continued into Los Angeles county. At that juncture, Ventura county authorities handed over the operation to the CHP once the driver entered the 405 freeway heading south.

“This one is very unique in the context of the traffic conditions allowing individuals to continue to remain on the highway and extend this pursuit,” commented a spokesperson from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.

Wilson allegedly avoided all the spike strips tossed on the road by authorities, as seen in footage from above.

Cross-Border Escape and Aftermath Developments

The pursuit eventually reached the international border by 1.30pm, prompting the highway patrol to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.

Walters indicated on the following day that the minivan was situated in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was coordinating with the CHP to retrieve it.

“At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the vehicle,” she remarked. “I’m more at ease knowing she was not injured. The car is replaceable.”

Owner’s Perspective

The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since last October, recognizes that the path to recovery from addiction and emotional distress is often non-linear.

“This represents a mental health and addiction emergency,” Walters emphasized. “There is a need for additional assistance. We need more resources for those that are facing challenges.”

“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” she added.
